Taxi Testing!!

February 6, 2010 at 6:36 pm | Posted in What's happing this week? | 2 Comments

In light of the 747-8 taxi test scheduled this week, I just wanted to catch everyone up on what taxi testing is and why it is important prior to getting a plane up in the air. First off, taxi testing is done before EVERY first flight. Basically during taxi testing pilots and engineers are checking all the aircraft systems to make sure everything is functional and ready for first flight. In addition, pilots can check things such as breaking distance and ground roll distance to see how the plane will behave close to lift off.

Taxi testing has already occurred for the 787. Check out the video below for some shots of the plane in action last July!

  1. That’s gotta be a rush for the pilots doing the testing!
unrelated to the test…but I remember those rainy, overcast Summer days when I lived in Seattle. : > )

  2. Yes, I would love to be a test pilot if they gave me the opportunity to fly!
